Mining
Airo provides a handset that allows communication and geo-location of
miners post-accident and under normal operating conditions specifically
for mines that are subject to the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act
(Mine Act). By providing these handsets to miners and mining companies,
Airo has indicated our dedication to the overall safety and well-being
of our customers - a standard that competitors have yet to achieve.
As of 2009, the Mine Act applied to approximately 400,000 miners
and almost 15,000 mines. Administered by the Mine Safety and Health
Administration (MSHA), the Mine Act covers all mine operators and miners
throughout the U.S., including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico,
the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Trust Territory of the
Pacific Islands. By June 15, 2009, the Mine Act requires each operator
to have:
- Post-accident communication between underground and surface personnel
via wireless or alternative to wireless; and
- Electronic tracking system to determine location of persons trapped
underground.
Unfortunately for miners, their families, and mine companies no such
system has been available to adequately address the unique mine safety
hazards until now. Airo recognizes the importance of miner safety
and our products focus on providing a fool-proof solution to be used
industry-wide.
Airo's newest handset, the M-1, is specifically designed to meet the
rugged and highly specialized demands of the mining industry and to
enable the mining companies to fully comply with the Mine Act. The M-1
ensures protection of your greatest asset - your people. The handset
offers powerful and dynamic hardware solutions wrapped in rugged and
intrinsically safe handsets. Miners can now choose the best product
that allows for rapid integration of mobile workforce communications
into their existing infrastructure. Importantly, the M-1 can help to
locate and communicate with underground miners in emergency situations,
preventing further tragedies and loss.
